Supra-Renal Caval Filter

Teenage female involved in a motor vehicle accident was found to have multiple pelvic fractures. Placement of a temporary filter for prophylaxis was requested.


Two images from an inferior vena cavagram demonstrates compression of the cava from a hematoma (arrows). Inflow demonstrates the level of the left renal vein.

A retrievable filter was placed in the supra-renal position.
